Definitions and mathematical statement

Let $n\geq1$, let $A\in\{0,1\}^{n\times n}$, and set \[ P=\{x\in{\mathbb{R}}^n:Ax\leq\mathbf1,\ x\leq\mathbf1\}, \] with componentwise inequalities and no lower bound $x\geq0$. A facet is an actual codimension-one face, not simply a row of a possibly redundant inequality description. Let $\mathcal F(P)$ be the facets and let $c:\mathcal F(P)\to\{1,\ldots,n\}$ assign one color to each, with exactly two facets of each color.

Writing $e_i$ for the $i$th coordinate vector, the source further requires that a facet "with extreme direction $-e_i$" not have color $i$. The recession cone of $P$ is the negative orthant, with extreme rays ${\mathbb{R}}_{\geq0}(-e_i)$. Under the natural recession-face interpretation, the condition is \[ -e_i\in\operatorname{rec}(F)\quad\Longrightarrow\quad c(F)\ne i, \qquad F\in\mathcal F(P). \] Here $\operatorname{rec}(F)$ is the set of directions $d$ such that $x+td\in F$ for every $x\in F$ and $t\geq0$. The source does not explicitly define extreme direction, so this interpretation must be confirmed.

A vertex $v$ is panchromatic if \[ \{c(F):F\in\mathcal F(P),\ v\in F\}=\{1,\ldots,n\}. \] The algorithmic question is whether, for every admissible $A$ and coloring, such a vertex can be found in time polynomial in the finite input encoding. Degenerate vertices may meet more than $n$ facets; no simplicity assumption is added. Since there are at most $2n$ defining inequalities, the exact-two-per-color hypothesis also requires $2n$ actual facets; redundant/duplicate inequalities cannot be counted as separate colored facets without changing the problem.

The record does not give a separate existence theorem or specify the coloring representation and output conventions. A total search algorithm must in particular guarantee existence on every admitted input; that guarantee is not silently imported from a named Sperner analogy.

Short English statement

Find a polynomial-time procedure that locates a vertex incident to every color in the given downward-unbounded matrix polyhedron. The exact direction condition and actual-facet convention matter. The supplied assessment describes a Sperner-style fixed-point/parity search question and reports no verified published polynomial-time resolution or refutation. The archived Egres open label is source evidence rather than a current resolution authority.
